Growing Sweet Potatos

Has anyone grown Sweet Potatos successfully? I would love to grow some on my allotment this year - does anyone have and tips? I've found that I have heard that it's recommended that you plant them under black plastic to keep the soild warm when planting outdoors. Any other suggestions?
Thank you.

You could put the plastic over the soil before planting, that will keep the warmth in particularly if it is clear plastic. Use plants already growing rather than the seed variety and give them a go. I have never grown them but I saw Gardeners World last year and Joe Swift grew some pretty successfully. I'm sure if you look on google you will find all the research you need about Yams and how to grow them.
