is it alright to prune conifers now i have a lot of large conifers and have been given a good price for the job but have never had them cut this early before

By 'prune' do you mean their annual haircut? If so then no it is far too soon, this needs to be done July/August time. Cutting them now will simply encourage greater growth. If it is to remove limbs etc. then, as Kildermorie says, this is a good time.

a tidy up all over and something off the height,i did think it may be too early so leaving it till later thanks for your advice.
