yes it is. This is a good organic way of doing it. if you can use proper soap as opposed to detergent its even better apparently.

thats fab I will remember that for when I see them good old mum we used to think (and still do sometimes hehe) she was a bit potty!!

If you want a more effective and natural way of repelling bugs from roses or any plant for that matter, try this....

Collect stinging nettles from your local woods park or `wild area` break up the leaves with gloves on - place in an old pair of tights / stockings, soak in a bucket of water for 2 weeks, removes the rotted nettle leaves and stockings from the water and throw away, the water thats left can be poured into spray bottles and used as a very effective bug killer, and it works a treat and all natural too !!!

That sounds like a useful tip, Paul. We will have to try it.

I used to use washing up liquid too. I was told it works because of the viscous quality so the bugs can't stick to it, lol. I don't know though but it sounds feasible.

I used to put an old pair of marigolds on and squish them with my fingers.

Nowadays, you can also buy organic methods, like Lacewings, which will eat them for you!
