I had a cordyline in the garden that died in the cold weather last year. We cut it back and there is now 4 side shoots. I would like to keep a couple to put in pots but don't know how to go about it. I tried before but they just died. Is it possible?

Otherwise, just leave the shoots in place - they'll grow on into, for now, a sort of shrubby cordyline.

... until their stems grow up ... but could be a few years to reach their original height.

Only if they have roots - which side shoots probably don't. If there are any at the base, you might find a piece with roots. Good luck!
