How do I prune an unsightly lilac bush thats very old, tall does not flower like it used to. I believe the bush/tree is over 50 years old.

Same answer as to your Forsythia question - this drastic pruning is known as rejuvenation. Occasionally, a plant is just too old to respond well, but mostly they do.
