Don't know which is the best, but you could try Abriachan nurseries on Loch Ness. They have an online catalogue with a good selection of alpines and they do mail order. I've used them a few times and find them reliable.

Burncoose nurseries have some pretty ones on their website Scotkat they deliver and I have ordered from these before and found them reliable.

Edrom Nurseries in East Lothian supply first class plants as do Kevock Garden Plants in Edinburgh. Both have websites with catalogues for you to browse. The nursery at Kevock is so inaccessable that visitors are not encouraged but they do have open days in their own home garden. You need to be reasonably fit though. Their garden is on a steep hillside and on our first visit it only took minutes to realise that the alpine walking sticks we had been given were a real help. They started their business by potting up excess plants and it grew like Topsy. Edrom is south of Dunbar and near the east coast. It is a flat woodland garden with nursery beds and sales tables full of goodies. The owners of both are usually at the Edinburgh SRGC show along with some others and the members of the clubs holding the shows also have sales tables with some excellent buys and loads of helpful advice.

Lemon yellow a bit of a challenge with alpines... you are more likely to see the rich golden, orange yellows - though there are saxifrages that have a lemon yellow colour, also primulas; even possibly some of the drabas. I'd suggest Kevock and going to Edinburgh Show or Gardening Scotland, they also sell online.

For the (almost) lemon colour check out Penstemon pinifolius "Mersea Yellow". Two photos here..............

A nice hardy low grower.

But not, in my view, an alpine Meanie but a low growing shrub. Depends on what Scotkat's definition of an alpine is :-)

Fair enough MG!
I did buy it as an alpine though, which I assumed was based on its mountain habitat in the wild.........

I have just added a pic of the perfect lemon yellow for your planter, Scotkat. Saxifraga x apiculata should be readily availlable from alpine nurseries.Picture taken this morning.
