I have lots of autumn crocus, but would welcome suggestions on what to plant with them in order to display better. Presently in huge clumps of foliage and looks untidy

You can plant several types of bulbs on top of each other. You already have the autumn crocus, how about daffidils for spring followed by lilies or Dorjac's alliums for summer.

Thanks, alliums sound a great solution.

Thats the trouble. they leaf up now then bloom in the autumn and the leaves arn't very attractive either. Perhaps some of the the larger Allium plants, at least they bloom soon after leafing generously, and will be gone by the time the crocus bloom!
