Hi Bernard,
This is Wild Honesty, the white one. Pull it out if you don't like it.

Thanks, Doctorbob.
I like it - I just wanted to know its name when I'm talking to it. LOL

You should hopefully get some flowers on it this year. These plants take 2 years to flower. Glad you're keeping it, butterflies, green lacewing, hoverfly and bee fly are drawn to their frothy flower heads. Also, bullfinches adore honesty seed. They can often be seen crouching on the ground beneath the plant before jumping up to pull a single silver penny in their beak. Once back on the ground, they rip off the packaging with relish to get the nutritious snacks inside!

Send us a photo if one appears, they are rare birds!

I have one popped up under my Bird feeder that looks exactly like this, and from my wild flower book I identified it as Garlic Mustard I have a lot of honesty but these flowers are just one little bunch of florets at the tip, so I will have to wait and see if they have penny shaped seeds or spike shaped seeds to solve my mystery.. Whereas the Honesty is biannual this has flowered the first year.

Appologies accepted Doctorbob!! but at least we have had a good discussion, and I was far from certain and quite pleased that it made me look harder, as so many are very simular. We never know what the bird seed is going to throw up!

You can use the young leaves for salad, garnishes and flavour additive for mayonnaise, salad dressings, sauces and soups.

It's me again! I have not heard it called Jack by the Hedge before, so I went on to google, put in Jack by the Hedge/Wild flower and I was amazed to see it came up with its non botanical name. There are some super photos of it on there and info
