Ah, ha. The dreaded lily beetle.

Take 'em off and squash 'em. Not much else you can do with those, unfortunately and keep your eyes on your lilies 'cause they'll be back.

Destroy, kill, squash! I loath these little blighters. These were probably overwintered adults. Check the lily leaves for red eggs or babies, which look like birds droppings. remove these too or they will eat your lilies down to the stalk in a matter of days. The next generation will be around in about 3 weeks so like Llew says keep checking

I currently have loads of lilies coming up in the garden and I do twice daily checks for these little blighters. Last year my plants were devastated by the bright red shiny pests. I've also got a slug n snail problen tha I've had to resort to using pellets on. But these little red beetles will munch their way through your plants in no time - squish away!

If you don't mind chemical sprays, you can spray them and get rid of the 'orrible critters that way. Catching them to squish them is not always easy - I swear they hear me coming and drop off the lily so I can't find them!

They are clever beetles, as they always land upside down and then you can't see the red top.

My second to last blog is all about these and belive me you are not alone. Just keep checking.

I have found that the chemical sprays have no effect on the little bu**ers!! Cut off their heads with your fingernail!!
