What soil should I get for alpine plants?

You cannot buy a suitable compost for alpines, Scotkat, none have suitable drainage. A good, all round mix would be equal parts of soil, grit and humus. The soil can be from your garden, the grit as fine as you can buy easily (I use 6mm) and the humus could be multi-purpose compost of your choice. The multi-purpose can be a cheap brand because you don't need to worry about the rubbish in it, just mix it up.
