Agree with 2 & 3. Top one 'could be' Meconopsis cambrica, the Welsh poppy.

Thanks Moon_grower & Bulbaholic i thought 2nd was a peony and that 1st were poppy leaves but had no idea about the lily of the valley , is it right that peonies don't like being moved? when can i move the others? thanks for your help

Peonies purely hate being moved and can sulk for years if you do so... The poppy won't really like moving either as it has a deep tap root. Let it flower and collect seed to scatter where you want it to grow but BEWARE pretty as it is you will need to keep pulling it out as it self seeds everywhere. The lily of the valley you can move just about any time, they are stoloniferous and you'll be lucky if you get every last piece of stolon out.

If you absolutely have to move a paeony, do it in autumn immediately after the foliage has withered. Although they don't show any top growth, they start into growth underground very early in the spring so need moving before then

I agree with the id's. the meconopsis is a free self seeder and they may be yellow or orange flowered.

I'm not totally convinced on the mec. cambrica and having quizzed Bulba neither is he but it is a 'best guess' right now :-)

Thanks everyone i have made a list of all the comments as to what to do and have decided to leave the Peony where it is!! it belonged to my father-in-law who i adored so it is staying put!!

Before I got down to the comments, I had the answers:- Welsh poppy, Paeony, and Lily of the valley. It's always reassuring to know that other people think the same. Have had all three in gardens at some stage. I regard Welsh poppies as a nuisance weed, though, and would root it out as much as possible.

Always wise with a new garden to wait a full year before digging a bed over to see what is already there.
