What kind of grass is this please? how is it looked after? is it cut down? i just pulled all the dead leaves out, no idea if that's what i'm supposed to do though!

Definitely not bullrushes! We used to have great clumps of this and never knew the proper name for it, but a friend used to call it "razor grass" because you could cut your fingers on it. I'm pretty sure it wasn't true razor grass, but it does sound similar. It tended to take over the borders, and eventually we rooted all of it out.
