Philodendron !
We have had a 7 ft high one in the hall for many years and only watered it. The leaves at the bottom and top are green but 4 or 5 in the middle have gone brown and yellow and look awful.
Can we do anything to save it or is it goodbye time. Thanks

Monstera deliciosa. ( I've just looked it up !)
Huge leaves, like hands having about 9 fingers.
Beautiful glossy leaves at the top, but brown and yellow about one third of the way up.
I'd love to save it.

Ah, so not actually a Philodendron then.
Monstera sometimes gets a bit of stem rot, and that might be the cause of your yellowing leaves in the middle. Stem rot itself is caused by stagnant air, over damp conditions, and air that's too cold.
I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want a plant with a bare bit in the middle (and anyway, if its stem rot, it'll rot through that part) so I'd cut it back beyond the affected part, repot in fresh compost if you've not done it for a while, keep watered and feed weekly with something like Baby Bio houseplant food.
