The frost has nipped the growing tips. Pinch or cut off the dead bits down to a leaf axle. The new growth will be red for some time until it matures.

Seems to be quite a lot of caterpillars and slugs this year. Between them new shoots can disappear over night. Have a look in the bush to see if you spot any signs of them as the marks left of leaves are tell tale - it might be frost but I would be surprised if you had a hard frost recently.

Could be the frost, do you have wild animals lurking about? The muntjacs nibbled at mine, only bare woods left, it is trying to grow back again, it does not seem to give up, it has been nibbled at several times, a few of my red robins have been eaten too, especially the new leaves :((

If you prune it lightly you get the red tipped new growth

I live in the south (Kent) and we have had frosts regularly to date, even this morning. It has nipped: Red Robin, Hardy Fuchias, Pieris, Hydrangeas, Ceratostigma, and Griselinia to name but a few shrubs.

I know what the text books say but I give my hedge a light trim a few times each year to keep it in shape and that seems to stimulate new red shoots throughout the year. I would give it a very light haircut and see what happens.

Photinia Little Red Robin is slightly more susceptible to cold and frost than its larger cousin - it'll be frost damage. I'm in West London, but the field opposite me was white as snow last Sunday morning, early on with a thick frost.

hi all thanks for the tips, not sure it`s frost,we`ve not had that many, but i have seen a few caterpillars about, plenty of wasps in a conifer? the stalks are still there but no leaves,so i`m guessing at some critter needing a new season feast? at least i now no that it will respond to a little trim and hopefully give me a flush of colour in a predominantly green area.By the way also spotted and squished first lily beetle, being vigilant about them as i`ve got lilies springing up everywhere
cheers again all
