I've only heard of copper tape since being on this forum. What does it do and what do you do with it?

hi spritz, i think it could work out cheaper, you can use it on your pots, planters and on the ground around the base of some very nice hostas, will let you know how i get on.

hi lew. i think that the slime these creatures travel on has some sort of chemical which reacts to the copper and repels them. but not really sure. scousemonk.(john.)

when the slugs or snails try to cross the tape there is a small electric charge generated. If the slug is sensible it will turn round and go the other way. The copper should be about 3-4 cm wide to be most effective. Im trying it this year on my hosta pots and it seems to be doing the job. You can buy copper rings for plants in the ground but I dont know if this will be as effective as the any slugs in the soil within the ring wont be bothered

I might try that then.

I used copper tape purchased from Lakeland last year . It worked quite well, having taped around most of my pots of Hostas. Warning, it says on the packing to be careful using it , it has very sharp edges and you can easily cut yourself.

The slugs and snails here have taken a liking to heleniums whch are usually shredded by mid summer. I purchased the copper rings and put round the plants early in spring - so far so good as the young growth hasn't been touched

Hi all, on this thread if you would like to go to my photo's there is one of my hostas taken last summer.Copper tape used around the base of planter. One reel probably does 2 large planters and three smaller pots. Will be interested to see if the cable works as well.
