It is a houseplant. The usual box gift from garden centre.

Okay, next question! Is it a Spathiphyllum (Peace Lily) or a Zandeteschia? Google pics on line if you're not sure.

You have me going now. After looking at the photos on the web it is obviously not an Arum at all. I have uploaded a photo to this site, but I am not sure where it has gone!!
If it is any help, it was given at Christmas as a box kit, bulb, pot and soil. One thick stem grew and produced 6 flowers, then another stem came up from the bulb and produced 5 more. They are all finished now and the stems are turning yellow. I have in fact cut the first one off. There were no instructions on the box on how to treat it after flowering, obviously the manufactuers want you to throw it away and buy another next year.

Been to your profile page and there's one photograph there, now showing as your avatar shot. If that's the right plant, its an Amaryllis, which is a large bulb. Allow the foliage to die down, as it obviously is, but really it would be best to have fed it with liquid houseplant feed while the foliage was present, so if there's still any functioning foliage, feed it now. Then just put it somewhere in the house, say a north facing windowsill, out of full sun, and let it rest. You won't need to water it, but you should find it suddenly produces a green tip at some point - when it does, start watering again.

That is very helpful, thank you so much. There is some new growth in the form of leaves, about 4" long below the flowering stem, so maybe its not too late to give it a feed. I shall do so tomorrow, then follow your advice and shift it to a north facing windowsill, for its rest. Hoping that next year, it gives me as much pleasure as it has this. Thanks again.

Hang on, if there's new growth, continue to feed weekly and water for another 2 or 3 weeks - it might be going to produce more flowers. Do the resting thing after that if it does.

Thanks again. I have fed it today and will take your advice and repeat it in a week, and so on. Its good to be able to get advice from experts like you. If it does flower again that really will be the icing on the cake! XX

If it doesn't show signs of flowering within 6 weeks, reduce watering and let it die down. I have to say I'm certainly not an 'expert' on these, althoughI've grown them before myself.

Will do. Thanks again.
