I am about to plant a fern and some hebes in plastic pots do I need to insert a membrane in to the pots first. I have already drilled drainage holes into the bottom of them. Many thanks Karen

I would assume that most Ferns prefer poorly draining soil, not waterlogged, but slow draining. Hebes, depending on variety, will prefer to be in the ground - some are dwarf others get large and so watering may be an issue over spring and summer.

No, you don't need a liner in plastic pots.
