I have a astilbi plant which has flower stalks appearing. Is it too late to divide the plant. At present the plant size is a metre wide and about 15" wide.

They are difficult to split as the are very hard in the centre and you do risk making a mess of it if the flowers are already coming up. Best to wait as Seaburngirl says.

« Dahlia corms - should these be popping up through the soil yet? I've planted...
as previously mentioned on your first post , it is a bit late now. better done in the autumn.
if you decide to split it now you will need to give it plenty of water for several weeks [possibly not a problem with the weather!]. then you may find the flowers fail to come into flower.
up to you. if you have to spit it then fingers crossed.
