looks like a rotten old spud!!
Perhaps if nobody can tell you then if it were me I'd pop it in a pot,not too deep. see what happens then give it a home when its more obvious what it is.
Being so ugly its bound to be a stunning thing when its grown. :)

Looks like a calla lilly or zantedeschia tuber, if so plant it up in a little compost and water very sparingly
untill growth appears.

It does look like a potato but also reminds me of a very clean looking Liatris bulb, though they tend to be darker. I would plant it as pic 1 shows, but if it doubt plant it on its side then you get a win/win situation.

Oh sorry i forgot to put it's a Calla lily!! but i don't knoiw which way round to plant it! it's not as obvious as bulbs lol
