Update on Oak Leaf Hydrangea that was on its last legs

I sent a photo of my poorly Oak Leaf Hydrangea in March and just wanted to send a couple of pictures of how it looks now. My only problem is that something is eating it. Could it be slugs?
Thanks

Thanks Bamboo
It has never flowered and considering it's such a terrible shape I may cut it back and hopefully with your advise on grit revive it for next year or if it were your plant would you see if it flowers on the stems and then if no flowers appear cut it back. Oh the decisions of gardening!!

Might also be a good idea to dig a large hole and put a bag of cheap Multipurpose Compost in to give this plant a good home ?

We,re on solid clay and mine really suffered like yours, I ended up giving it to a friend with sandy soil.......

Depends whether you can stand looking at it all year in its current shape and form, lol! I think I'd reshape it - losing some of the stems and foliage makes it easier for the plant to settle into a new spot successfully anyway.

Thanks for your kind comment Steragram I have a lot of borders and they certainly keep me busy.Yes Bamboo I am going to reshape it and maybe put it in a large tub and forget about it and hopefully it will recover. Many thanks for all your comments.

This one does not like heavy soil - wet feet it hates. Needs a sharper soil to grow well, something free draining. Will also tolerate much more sun than other hydrangeas. If your soil is heavy, work in some grit into the planting area. YOu can cut back if you want, but you will probably lose flowers this year.
