Goldfinches eat seeds and love black nigra seed.........I keep an area at the back of the garden for teasels, thistles etc. and have the pleasure of these lovely birds.....especially the babies.....

I've got a couple of Virginias and also, even here by the frozen Yorkshire coast, some goldfinches. As NP says I always have my bird tables and feeders well stocked and have never really had problems, even with collared doves and brassicas. They just prefer me to keep buying commercial seed wholesale.

You may need a special seed feeder but mine was only a couple of pounds, the niger seed is very fine

i wouldnt of thaught they will strip it even if they do eat it a lot . they wont stay buds for long and virginia creeper is very hardy and grows quit fast . you could get some green garden netting if there young plants and some bamboo and just protect the base and a few feet up till they get realy established . another optio0n would be to feed the birds something they like more and enjoy the plants and the lovley birds .
