Could be trollius or ranunculus i get them mixed up!

Hey thanks Dgw. Was just thinking that myself as I looked at another members pic on goy.

It's not the common weed buttercup. I say this with some conviction, since I pull them up by the dozen in this garden!

I'm going with Trollius, possibly chinensis, from the leaves.

I think it is ranunculus acris, meadow buttercup or it could be the swamp buttercup [cant remember its proper name], the common garden variety tends to be the creeping one or the bulbous one with fatter leaf segments.

the difference between the first two is if the leaf has a short stalk it is the swamp one. if the leaf comes straight off the main stem it is the meadow one.

So do I. I was going to say bulbous buttercup, which I think is the same thing. Just be glad it isn't the creeping buttercup which is such a plague in the garden once it gets hold!

Hope I'm wrong though, because it would be much nicer if it is a trollius.

Were you thinking of greater or lesser spearwort, Seaburngirl? Not one of those, the leaves are quite different.

i have greater spearwort in the pond so i know that one well. bulbous buttercup has fatter leaf sections compared to the less common meadow buttercup.

either way it isnt a Geranium as the flower is from the ranunculacea group.
