When cutting the laurel this year, trim only with secateurs, do not leave any cut leaves which will encourage mildew/fungus. You may also have a visit from the dreaded vine weevil, if you can, water the root area with a solution of Armillatox, feed also after the smell has gone with a strong solution of Tomorite. I hope this will help you with your problem.

Thanks for the photo Andy, I'm pretty certain this is vine weevil damage, but you may also have mildew. Cut the leaves with your secateurs and burn them.

sounds like a fungal infection, I dont know what you'd do to treat it but remove in inected leaves and those that have dropped off and burn or put in household refus bin.
it could also be down to frost damage . see what others suggest. we are a friendly bunch. welcome too.
