Hi all! can anyone suggest climbers 4 the front of my house. Its south facing so it gets the sun all day. Ive tried clematis montana, passion flower, roses and jasmine but as the front patio is paved I have 2 put them in pots. I dont wanna go wasting more money so can anyone suggest something.
thanks

Clematis will grow fine in a nice large pot. (not the Montana though)
If you don't mind ones that die down in winter, sweet peas are good and also the Ipomoeas.
They'll need some sort of support like trellis or obelisk.

I cant put roots in ground see as its a 3 story cottage and my cellars underneath (hard to explain) so it has to be in container.

How about a fig tree trained against the wall? they like it warm and having their roots restricted. look up Brown Turkey. As with all container plants feeding and watering correctly is essential. perhaps your containers have not been deep enough for roses and perhaps too warm for clematis roots. you could pop in some annual climbers for summer interest and colour

humilus lupus golden hope will cover a large area in one season then you cut it down to base in spring lovely golden and lime green colour

What about a Solanum jasminoides Album, it is very pretty and flowers over quite a long period. If you are not familiar with it try googling it. Added to the fact that it is semi evergreen.
