Hi everyone - just a quick question for you please. I have a mistery plant, and I don't remember planting it. Does anyone recognise it? Is it precious, or a weed?
It's about 6" tall now.

Hi Spritz, nice to hear from you hope you,re feeling better. As to the plant I bet Bamboo will know.????

Hi everyone - no, not a dahlia. Last year's are just appearing and they're tiny.
Any more ideas please?

I have a feeling its a weed, but I don't know the name of it.

Hello Spritz, I'll miss you at Malvern:-( I don't think it's a weed, somewhere in the back of my brain I've seen it. Now I want to know what it is lol:-) Is it me....or does it look like a geranium?

Lavatera or mallow?

Hallo again - I don't think anyone's cracked it yet, unfortunately. I suspect I might have to wait until it flowers - that is if it does! Thanks for the ideas.

Hello you lovely to see you back. I wondered at one of those un-named pink asters you have or Berhkeia [spelling]
10 May, 2012
Definately not a berkheya. Nowhere near prickly enough. At first glance I thought it was one of those awful wild Geums, but now I suspect it is a Geranium of sorts. Not a bloody cranes bill, but it looks suspicially like some form of sylvaticum, the leaves start out lobed but become more finely toothed as they grow up the stem. But as you say you'll have more chance of naming it when it flowers.

Hi Spritz, just googled some images for upright hardy geranium and it came up with G. Phaeum.......mourning widow or alba, supposed to be upright, difficulty is everyone wants to show the flowers....not the leaves or growing habit
11 May, 2012
No, it isn't a geranium, definitely. I've got errrr....just a few, so I know!!!
Where's Bamboo? She might know! The plant is in the middle of a large space, and I want to plant it up - I can't bear seeing bare soil as you well know.

It is only an idea, but reminds me of currant/gooseberry family.....

Japanese anemone Barbara?? http://www.shutterstock.com/pic-14890990/stock-photo-serrated-leaf-of-japanese-anemone-anemone-japonica-isolated.html

what about trollius? :-)
12 May, 2012
I know it isnt Jap anemones or a trollius. This is really bugging me Spritz. There are dead stems just beside it, no clues from that? what about trawling your photos of the bed from las year? see if there is a clue there.
12 May, 2012
It has appeared since last year, Sbg. Still a mistery!
12 May, 2012
Bugging me as well...I think it is either a flowering plant or some sort of fruit...need to know as it looks familiar.
12 May, 2012
I think it's exciting not knowing what it is...we'll all be watching with bated breath....hope it's not a mutant Japanese knotweed lol:-)))
13 May, 2012
So do I, Ba! If it is, I'll send it off to you. ;-D)
I think I might pot it up if it doesn't flower or get identified soon. It's in my way!Grrr....
13 May, 2012
Where's your sense of adventure?:-)
13 May, 2012
Gone. I've potted it up this afternoon. It had deep roots, so it might not survive. :-(
13 May, 2012
How could you spritz...now we may never know what it was:-( If it was so deep rooted, was it possibly a tree?:-)
14 May, 2012
No idea! As it's stopped raining, I'm off to see if it has survived so far.
14 May, 2012
They say a weed is a plant in the wrong place...... ;0)
14 May, 2012
I don't think it liked being potted up. It's still all droopy!
Never mind. I suspect it's a weed. I shan't miss it.
14 May, 2012
I wonder are the backs of the leaves silvery? might be a mugwort. Its just so vigourous to have come from seed with just a strong root.

I took out quite a large self sown buddleia tuther day and potted it up (in case it makes my fortune) this has flopped too. It may have been the first turquoise one! It may rally yet, being a buddleia. I got rid of my last one in 2009 or 2010:-)
15 May, 2012
I don't know, Sbg...I'll take a look in a minute.
I'm off Buddleias, Ba. Mine (inherited) is too tall and gangly - there was no new growth at the base when pruning time came round, and I think it might have to go.
15 May, 2012
ALL buddleias have to go in my garden! Dratted things!
16 May, 2012
I potted up a seedling that flowered white and its fine.....probably doesn' like this miserable weather
16 May, 2012
What miserable weather? We have sun today! :-)))
I'm afraid the mystery plant is a goner. :-(
