Hi all.
Could I ask anyone growing Pittsosperum Garnetti how it might fair in the corner behind the statue .Its east facing but at the bottom of a slope and surrounded by fences although it does get full on morning sun in winter.I need an evergreen I think for some substance and thought it would look rather nice surrounded by tom thumb. At the moment i have two cornus there but in winter it lacks definition.I should add the tree is now gone and i can't decide to either replace it with another tree or something dark and evergreen with eunonymous in front .
Many Thanks :-)

Thanks Bamboo. The garden itself is SE facing but I do think it may be safer elsewhere as you say.

When you say its east facing, do you mean the whole garden, or that particular border on the left? It makes a difference because if you mean that border, then the north wind can roar through your trellis and hit the Pittosporum - if its the whole garden, the plant will be sheltered from north winds by the fence on the left.
You also mention its at the bottom of a slope - is it a frost pocket? You don't live in a particularly warm part of the country, where you want to plant it is a low spot which might mean its a frost pocket, and the plant may be subjected to easterly and northerly winds. All these things might mean a Pittosporum has not enough shelter in that particular situation during winter months. These plants are hardy, but not as hardy as, say, Elaeagnus varieties, which will tolerate virtually anything thrown at them.
