I planted 3 gardenia plants last year around May time but they don't seem to be growing. They are not dead but not grown at all. What should I do?

I grow this - it'll be Gardenia 'Kleim's Hardy' I imagine. They are slow growing, and my experience is they prefer to be in pots in ericaceous compost, in a sunny, sheltered position, and not allowed to dry out, but not kept waterlogged. Even so, their rate of growth is very slow - mine flowered last year and the flowers took up more room than the foliage did.

A couple of questions;
How have you grown them? (pots or in the border?)
What ype of soil are they in?
Are they in full light/partial light, or shade?
All of these can be reasons for your predicament!
