I use Lonicera nitida alot. It doesn't mind the wind as it has very small leaves. The one drawback, is that it will need regular trimming. But it does stay green. It is fairly quick growing but holds it shape well.

Buxus microphylla.

Photinia - Red Robin. It's used extensively and successfully round these parts and makes a lovely, colourful hedge which can be kept trimmed quite easily to conform to a height. It's much hardier than you might expect, and copes with cold and altitude perfectly adequately.

Can't keep Photinia at 3 feet, Gattina, way too big a shrub for that.

There's a factory here with exactly that, Bamboo - growing in long tubs and surrounding their parking lot. I'll see if I can remember to take my camera next time we go that way.

You sure its not PHotinia Little Red Robin rather than just Red Robin, Gattina?
Which plant, by the way, I would not recommend to the questioner - it doesn't really like cold, wet winds in winter in Britain.

You could well be right, Bamboo - I admit I haven't scrutinised it closely. We get cold here, but really, it's much drier than the UK, so that could make all the difference.

I think it does - dry cold seems to be better for plants than the sort of damp cold we get here, things get fungal infections in that sort of weather.

How do I say thanks?
