I live in Canada (Toronto Area) I bought a Duranta White Bush,( very beautiful plant) The Florist shop owner told me that it was a perinnial shrub and that I could plant it in the ground and that it will come back in the spring after the harsh winter, it this true? After researching the plant I realize that maybe I was misguided, can you help,

Just a quick correction to Sarraceniac's comment -12˚C is 10˚F not -10˚F. Otehr than that I would agree it is highly unlikely to survive outside in a Toronto winter.

Sorry. Mea culpa teacher.

Easy mistake to make Sarraceniac but -10˚F is somewhere around -24˚C!

Typing error not a maths error. Lol.

We all make them... I am glad that Safari has an automatic spell checker! Doesn't help with a minus sign but does cause me to realise I have mis-spelt a word.

Hi Gardencrazy welcome to GOY. I think that your seller has been slightly economical with the truth. The Duranta genus is native to Florida and whilst it is supposed to be frost hardy to about -12º centigrade which is about -10 on the fahrenheit scale, if my memories of 50 years ago in a T.O. winter, are correct, even without wind-chill you can get far lower. I am not familiar with the Duranta per se, but I suspect it would have to be well under cover in Toronto in winter.
