My father had a standard in a pot in his front garden for over seven years and it seemed to do perfectly well amazingly so i wouldn't be too worried :-)

I don't see why you can't keep it in a container for a year. Nishiki is not a large tree so provided that you give it a good, large pot, keep it moist and plant it next year I don't see that it would come to any harm.
