Yes, it is indeed a (very old and woody) potentilla but always gives a good display of flowers all summer long.

Lovely pictures Sheilar, wish we had Goldfinches round here, such attractive little birds.

If they have such a long flowering season I must deffo add them to my garden. Thanks so much for giving me an idea. And always looking for wildlife-friendly planting. It's one of the many great things about GOY. We learn so much just by checking in and reading Q and As.

They are lovely birds, parents at the top with red across the eyes and a family the babies don,t have the red until they are older. They seem to chatter to each other, you are right they are seed eaters and love the black niger seed you can buy, we,ve an area with thistles and especially teasles that they love

Lovely to see them, and good pics too. We have had them visiting the hulled sunflower seeds this year for the first time ever. Only 2 of them though.

Thanks all for your nice comments. They're not bad pics are they considering they're taken through a window!!

Lovely pics. Well done.
I get them in the garden because of the niger seeds I put out. Oddly the feeder is next to a rhodo' which overshadows a potentilla that looks similar... Never seen the finches on the shrub though.

Lovely pictures, I had a pair come right up to the house yesterday where they collected the hair from my cats that I had just brushed for their nests. I have never seen them that close before.

All my pictures of birds and animals in the garden are taken through double glazing. I'm always amazed how they come out so clear. This morning, a fox on top of the gazebo. Jerked his head up as I opened the bedroom window to take a picture.......so aware.

Lovely pics. Is it a Potentilla? They seem to be pecking at the developing seedheads. Must get some because there is a small population of Goldfinches where I live.
