Right i have got my border dug, off to buy some shrubs in the morning, just looking for a few ideas, which shrubs do you suggest for the backbone of a front garden border, looking for something with leaves and or colour most of year plus something low maintenance, the soil is clay and one corner can get boggy, sun from mid afternoon, any ideas? Any help appreciated

A pieris, a choisya for the drier parts.
Fatsia japonica, Aucuba japonica for shadier.
Golden sedge, Hebe heartbreaker, Sambucus black beauty for golden yelloe, pink-green and black-pink colours.
I would avoid Lavender in sites that are not full sun and with clay soil - you at least need to decompact the soil and add lots of improver first, though Munstead is hardier than most.
