last autumn we planted 5ft tall photinias in a big trench backfilled with top soil as our garden is heavy clay they were doing really well until 3 or 4 weeks ago after the very wet weather now the leaves are drooping and a lot have dropped off. The garden was water logged for a couple of weeks could this be the reason and if so is there anything we can do to save them.

I think they will probably recover because photinias often go through periods of losing leaves. However if they were mine I think I would reduce them in size a bit and give them a trim which might aid recovery.

Previous question
I dont think it will have rotted, they loose leaves in dry spells which is what mine did this year even after all that rain. But its also what they do at this time of year so I think its going to be ok, unless it continues to sit in water.
