Have just bought a freesia, are they difficult to look after? Never grown one before.

keep in a sunny place and keep watered and the scent is wonderful - for about 2 weeks. Then just leave them. If in suitable soil they grow new bulbs readily and self seed well. I used to take mine in every winter but I noticed that I forgot a few and they still came up! As long as it is well drained (not waterlogged in winter). Also mice love them and bundling them all together in a warm shed is inviting trouble as you see the horror of empty bulb shells and mouse droppings in your bulb box. Enjoy - they are amongst my fav aroma.

Thank you they are my favourites too. Will see what happens and if they come up next year. Jx

Mine flower in late winter in the conservatory. They they are treated like any other bulb, fed, dried out and left outside in their pot for the summer. No idea whether these are a different variety from the summer ones or if it just depends on temperature and watering. But it is lovely to have the perfume in February, which is when the wild ones on the Algarve flower.

Why do cats stop you having houseplants Magnad? We had two cats for years and plenty of houseplants - no probs.
