Cucumis sativus - gherkins

I grow all female cucumbers in polytunnel. Can I plant the gherkin variety in tunnel near the cucumbers seeing at the gherkins will have male flowers. Also do you have to take the male flowers off or are they necessary for pollination.

Previous question
If the female flowers are pollinated they may produce seed filled fruits which are not so appetising. It's easy to spot the male flowers as they have no baby cucumber behind them, so you can cut them off.
