Are you obeying the law ?

Just wanted to check that today , once again, all you gardeners will be obeying the law .

My bird bath is overflowing, part of my sunken patio is awash, the nearest motorway junction to me is closed because of flooding and many of my plants are now horizontal instead of vertical.

But I just wanted to say that I will be obeying the law and that once again today I will not be using my hosepipe because , of course, there is a hosepipe ban.

And how about you ? Just checking !!!!!!

Daft isn't it! I am getting soaked on a regular basis - husbands car written off due to an incident with a flood - every rain water catching utensil overflowing and a tree lying at a rather dodgy angle. But hey - its summer!

No hosepipe ban, but then no rain either. Just been watering the sales plants as they are getting rather dry. Bit on the cool side though.
Having said that, our well is still empty, so the ground water has not yet been replenished.

Here in Essex we are overdosed again with continuous rain for the last 20 hours. Most of it heavy if not torrential. Everything has grown like mad. I have never seen the garden so green. Last year it was as dry as a stick. Everything in moderation would be lovely. Our reservoirs down here are replenished. I don't know about ground water. Can't use the hose.....cos it's raining.

I'm definitely obeying the law - it doesn't stop raining long enough to get out and use the hose. In fact, I think its floating about on the ground where its been left...
The field opposite me is flooded again, its been raining since about 9 p.m. last night non stop, and the weather forecast is for thunderstorms this afternoon with possible torrential rain...
I have, though, twice heard vague murmurings from the water companies that they 'might' rescind the drought orders 'if we have more rain'.... at this rate, we'll need boats to get out and find the hosepipe before it gets washed away...

Grim isn't it!........a nice beef stew & dumplings or a hearty soup anyone.........

Cor, beef stew and dumplings, or lamb stew and dumplings, I really fancy that. Must be winter then... trouble is I can't chew anything currently - had a tooth out 2 weeks ago today and I've got a dry, infected socket, its bloomin' agony frankly, though improving a bit now. But its baby food for me currently, and I'm sick to death of it... I could manage dumpling and gravy though, I'll be round later Pam...

The water companies sure put a spell on the UK when they announced that we would need at least 6 months of continual rain to get back to normal, well we are now into 3 months continual rain with a 1 week respite of sun. Sure my garden is lovely and green but I just cant get out there to enjoy it!!! I think I am going to bite the bullet soon and just sit in the rain with a vino, boo hoo its going to be a short summer. You have got me on one now Pam, I am hankering after stew and dumpling too!!!

The problem is definitely with the infrastructure. If water was being collected and stored properly, we wouldn't be in this fix. When I was studying geography at college in 1965 we were told that Britain would have a water supply problem within 20 years - and that was long before any recognition of climate change.

Not that knowing that helps anyone! Or makes the present weather any more welcome!

I asked this question at 9am this morning when I saw just how much rain there had been overnight. It carried on raining all day and eventually stopped briefly at about teatime. Took a walk up the garden and found that I could see sky where a very old tall plum tree with a large honeysuckle going through it had been. Presumably the constant weight of water on the large honeysuckle plus the sodden ground had found it out. Luckily it landed on the lawn and not on my shed or fences. Nothing compared with what some people have had to put up with this week with all this rain but its odd that I should have written the question this morning and then it happens on the very same day.

An new opportunity I suppose to redesign one corner of the garden.

The local river in its concrete casing was thundering along yesterday. Dull and drizzly is the order of the day for Tuesday........What an awful June for us gardeners. When life gives you rain....fill your butts, and try to look pleased at such bounty.
