Definitely alium - beautiful!!

if this is what they are like at the mo they are probably purple sensation. i bury mine about 4" deep on grit/sand and then leave them undisturbed . they will keep coming year on year.

do they need staking? as the winds round here are whipping at the mo, and i havent yet got much else in the same beds?

I have staked a couple of mine as the stalks have got quite tall, but the others are fine

As your photo shows it lying down, you won't need to stake it, Mookins....hehehe...x

Silly Allium, more like! Is it tired of standing up?

I have the same plant, and with their flower heads fully open. They have survived some horrendous winds today in Bracknell, a really screaming wind has been tearing at them. And they are all still standing. That's the ultimate test. Allium (Purple Sensation) definitely doesn't need staking.

hehe youre right Jonathan, have been keeping a close eye on mine and they are all quite happy... well they are standing up still at least
