Please can you identify these plants

They were grown from seed which were the size of a garden pea and were from the same pod. the green one is 20" high and the purple 38" high

I tend to agree with helenflower...it looks like a canna and the seed sounds correct as well.

One of the common names is 'Indian Shot' because the seeds look like shotgun pellets. It needs a bigger pot.

mmm well i had something very similar i can't be certain but think it may be a canna hope this helps :o)
