Many thanks to 'cutzandgraz' and 'bamboo' who gave advise on my cordyline problem. Have decided just to cut off offending shoots - as top seems fine at moment - and wait and see what transpires. Maybe the worms have just taken to the rotting parts. It's such a wonderful specimen that I will be heartbroken to lose the height! Will cut down ONLY if necessary!
