Please can anyone recommend a way of sending seedlings through the post, keeping the roots moist so that they are still alive at the other end?

I just got some through the post, were wrapped in small poly bags, then bubble wrap, and some polystyrene noodle things were in the box too, they survived the journey then being abandoned in the sorting office for a few days til I could rescue them. I also seen info (think its in my favourite blogs, will check, on putting them in a loo roll tube x let me find the other post and copy and paste to Here for you xx

I have posted many plug plants by putting the roots in plastic and tying round the stem to keep the peat in, then place in a small plasic bag ot jiffy bag, surrounded by shredded paper, travels well.

I also wrap in damp kitchen roll then in a zip lock bag.

Info from youngdaisydee xx@ Magnadoodle, I use the insides of toiletrolls/papertowel roles, I take as much compost off as possible, wrap the roots with damp paper towels and a bit of bubblewrap then into a padded envelope. First class post to arrive the next morning, Price usually around £2.80 for between 1 and 3 plants, there's a standard price for certain weights now..I hope this helps..

Very similar to those above. Wet newspaper with the hose, make a little parcel round the plant with wet newspaper and put all of this into a supermarket plastic bag. This then sits in a bed of shredded paper or similar inside a box that is strong enough that it will not squash in the post.

I have had some sent to me in toilet roll tubes (as already suggested) and I found they had worked well.

I've used one of those plastic boxes that joints of meat come in at the supermarket, using damp paper and bubble wrap for packing and then covering the top with stiff card sellotaped on.
