i have a wall that is about 12 feet and absolutely love Clematis. I need help in figuring which ones to plant so that the wall is covered green all year but has beautiful flowers also. I am a bit of a rookie so Im not sure how far apart I should space them or how many I should plant.

Interested to see answer to this, I just bought 5 climbers to hide a fence a wee bit longer than yours.... :) no idea if I've go enough!

The evergreen Clematis armandii might suit well. It is a good grower. White, slightly scented flowers.
It would need training along the wall and to be secured as it tends to grow upwards.
C. Bill McKenzie is another that may do well. Vigorous. But not evergreen. Beautiful yellow flowers though.

I have about 20 clematis along on of my fences, its about 9 foot, I have just planted them all next to each other as I wanted them to mingle together, I have planted summer flowering ones as I wanted summer interest and easier to look after.

I might have to take another one for you Magnadoodle as they may not have grown up as much as they have now and they are beginning to flower better now, I have loads of buds so when they open I will take it for you then. Thanks ever so much for the seeds I got them yesterday x

Oh and Magnadoodle, most of these clems are the £1.79 ones from Morrisons, I am addicted to buying them at that price:)

Marion, I need to get some Clems to cover a big expanse of fence, which do you recommend?, I already have a montana and an evergreen Armandii.

Booboosmur,

I have been just going by the colours on the front of the packets at Morrisons and choosing the prettiest ones, I do have a lovely Princess Dianna one which I got from a GC, Karen Susan did a fantastic blog recently on clems with good detailed info and pics so have a look at that, I a going to get a few of the ones she listed too.
