Have masses of ant nests in lawn - have tried brushing but still finish with a lawn full of bare patches. Help

Mary, when you say you've tried 'brushing', do you mean you've got little piles of muddy deposits on the lawn which you're trying to brush off?

I too have ants nests in the lawn, somewhere I read about sprinkling baking powder on the nests...so I did, the ants eat the baking powder and explode.....believe me it works!.

Ooh! I've never heard of that - it sounds quite alarming!

Any minute now they will send out their queens and fly away - then disappear from your lawn. Just don't hang around when they do fly especially if they are red ants.

They wait for one of those hazy, humid days, then you will see the "flying ants" emerge, with grey wings, and they just take off. In our sandy soil, there are numerous nests. I can remember seeing the pavements covered with them emerging from crevices and swarming into the sky! After a couple of hours, they are gone.
