Iris

I have some some lovely tall blue Irises growing in my garden. They have now 'gone over' and look unsightly, is it alright to cut them down or do I have to put up with them looking withered so that they will bloom again next year?

If they are bearded Irises, then cut the flower heads off when they have finished flowering and in a month or so , cut the leaves back to a fan about 9 inches long, It opens up the bed and they look much tidier. It is important for irises to get as much sun as possible to the rhysome.

Cut the flower heads off but not the foliage as the plant needs it. If they are the same ones I have - they stay green for ages and then the leaves turn brown and you can cut them off.
