I was given three nerine bulbs yesterday, one has sprouted leaves and the others just have sprouts. They weren't thriving where my friend had them, but I'm not sure what conditions they like and when they flower. All help appreciated.

Thanks Bamboo - I think I might have just the spot.

Also, unlike a lot of bulbs they want planting with their shoulders out of the ground.

I haven't the right conditions but when I was in Guernsey in october it was the Guernsey Lily festival,. The nerines were in individual clay pots in a glasshouse so that what I did and it worked well, they came through the winter and are now in full leaf

Mine have been in a pot for at least seven years, in the shelter of a south facing wall. You get leaves without flowers and then flowers without leaves. They are supposed to be kept dry after flowering but mine survive Welsh weather with no apparent problems and Wales doesn't do dry spells normally!"

I'm wondering if my friend had them planted too deep and thats why they didn't flower for her. Shall plant them slightly proud as suggested. Thank you everyone.

They come into leaf mid to late spring, but don't flower till late September or October, Cammomile - they like very well drained, dryish soil conditions, preferably in full sun.
