We have discovered numerous foliage plants springing up in one part of the garden, they have green Ivy shaped leaves and are edged in red and they now have a small white flower budding on them. I don't recall planting anything which resembles this plant, is it a weed?

Hi Jollyrita
I think this is a ground cover plant, I've got one in a pot. If you rub the leaves they're quite nicely scented kind of tangerine. It's called Houttuynia. It's very well-behaved in the pot, dies down in the autumn and will come back again late spring. I haven't planted any in the ground so I can see it might be a nuisance if in the wrong place.
If you put Houttuynia into Google images you should see if it's the one you have.
Hope this helps

Could be Houttuynia cordata which can be a bit of a thug.
