I have a beautiful camellia but it has scaly bugs on so the leaves are black looks very much like soot but I found out what it was and I have been treating it with a fungi spray but I have lots of new shoots on the top but the bottom half of the plant is still very black does anyone have any idea on what i could do.. also can anyone tell me when it is the best time to prune it.. thank you

I get this sooty mould on my camellias. It can be very unsightly and seems to be worse on some varieties than others. I have found the only effective way of getting it off is to rub each of the leaves over with a damp cloth. This is very laborious and obviously depends on the size of the bush! Sorry, I haven't found an easier solution yet. Good luck!
