why do the leaves of my toona sinesis turn yellowish brown

we got this recently it is about 18" high with 3 stems, it has develped new small leaves but the older leaves droop and turn yellowish brown. It is a pot with John Innes no.2. does it need to be in ericacous soil or need the acid feed we give to the acers? we live in the southend-on-sea, Essex area

prefers full sun and free draining soil, doesn't need acidic soil..

As I'd never heard of Toona sinensis, I looked it up in Botanica. The only info of any relevance was that it grows best in deep, rich soil, with full sun and a moist climate. I think it may be sulking in that pot.
