For Heucheras.....Most are Shade tolerant...but read the label. They always put on some sort of a show through the year. They are good in the ground and in pots. I think slugs are not too keen on them. Unfortunately they are vulnerable to Vine Weevil grubs eating the roots when potted. Some of them have quite showy and long lasting flowers.....not all of them. The leaves on some of them change colours a lot through the year. Offsets can be rooted easily. Vine weevil attacked plants can be grown on from whatever root is left after a good wash and some patience. They are very rewarding plants, on the whole, and make good statement plants in a display either in pots or in the ground. My favourites are Sweet Tea for leaf colour and long flowering. Tiramisu for changing leaf colour and spectacular long lasting flowers. Berry Smoothie for leaf colour, large size but not lots of flowers.

Good for coastal areas as they are salt tolerant.
I have 10 and love them for all year colour and interest here in the south east. Mine are all in full sun, but I might move the yellow ones this autumn to semi shade. I prefer the darker ones as they keep their colour and dont scorch like the pale yellow ones.
They can heave/lift out of the ground in freeze/thaw cycles and I noticed this spring one of mine had, I put a layer of compost around them each spring so if they do heave the roots will continue to grow into the compost and the plant survives. There are lots to look at on Goypeadia Lizziebee to help you decide which you like.

You could go for a Heuchera bed, look fantastic grouped together more so for the foliage affect, the flwers are good but once over they give you plenty of interest with all the foliage colour, do very well grown in containers.

Take a look at Plantagogo's website. Vicky1 is a member of GoY and owns the National Collection of Heucheras. She has some beauties! She gives advice about each plant as to the amount of shade or sun it prefers.
