Suffolk/Norfolk border, United Kingdom

I saw a tree/shrub the other day, about 6' tall, with a most beautiful yellow flower. I would describe it as like an hibiscus but the petals were really thick and waxy. Unfortunately I was unable to take note of the leaf which probably would have helped in identification.
I would be grateful for any help. Thank you.

Many thanks Andy, but I don't think so. I'll report back when the right answer turns up.

i agree with A/man, sounds like the freemontodendron. Lovely plant, the new growth tends to look a bit untidy. But the fine hairs covering the leathery but fuzzy leaves are likely to stick into fingers and cause irritation. the common name for the shrub is flannel bush due to the appearance of the leaves.

How do I say thanks?
