whats the best bush to grow between a leylandii hedge.i cut this back on the inner perimeter of the garden and have bare bark showing.

My experience of Leylandii is that they never grow back from old wood so if you've cut it hard back you will always be looking at dead wood. Because the hedge is still growing on one side anything you plant in front of it will be competing for water and food and would be hard to establish. Personally I'd take the Leylandii out and start again.
